Almost half of stopped-out community college students cite work as major reason for leaving

Nearly half of community college students who left without a degree cited work as a major reason, while 31% said they couldn’t afford their programs and 27% lost motivation. Economic hardships increased in 2023, with 60% missing bill payments and 58% applying for public benefits. Only 36% of stop-outs were likely to reenroll, down from 42% in 2022.
