Biden Calls for Greater Support of HBCUs, HSIs, and MSIs

Biden’s State of the Union address emphasized support for higher education, calling for increased Pell Grants and investments in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic and Minority Serving Institutions (HSIs and MSIs). Scholars hope this will translate into increased funding for these institutions. Biden’s administration has already invested over $7 billion in HBCUs, including COVID relief, debt relief, and grant funding. In 2023, $93 million in research grants were offered to HBCUs, TCUs, and MSIs, in addition to $50 million offered a month prior.
