College credit for working your job? Walmart and McDonald’s are trying it

Walmart and other companies are working with colleges to give retail and fast-food workers credit for on-the-job training, counting toward a degree. Walmart’s training program allowed Bonnie Boop to receive college credit, helping her earn a bachelor’s degree. Many universities are now offering credit for corporate training, and companies hope this will attract and retain workers. The U.S. military has a similar program, and there is a growing understanding that work and learning should not be separate. However, challenges remain in mapping on-the-job skills to college credit, and many workers are unaware of their employer’s education offers….
