Diverse: Issues In Higher Education
Low African American male student graduation rates at a predominantly Black institution in the northeastern United States are a concern. African American men face unique challenges in obtaining a college degree due to historical and societal contexts, financial barriers, cultural dynamics, and institutional obstacles. Addressing these disparities requires policy reforms, community engagement, institutional changes, role models and mentors, and research and data collection. Solutions include increasing funding for underserved schools, expanding access to financial aid, supporting mentoring and tutoring programs, prioritizing diversity and inclusion in colleges and universities, and partnering with marketing companies and social media influencers to increase visibility of successful African American men.
