2024-25 school year sees first admissions after SCOTUS overturned affirmative action in 2023. Howard University students and faculty express concern over potential effects on future students. Affirmative action, introduced in 1961, played key role in higher education admissions, providing equal opportunities for marginalized communities. Overturning could impact diverse enrollment. Despite this, historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) continue to provide diverse education opportunities. Concerns include population increase, limited housing, funding, and attack on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Future of HBCUs uncertain, but some predict stronger credentials in applicants and higher percentage of Black students.
