States and public colleges increasingly use direct admissions to attract local students amid enrollment declines and economic issues. Direct admissions offer high school graduates admission to colleges without application. Idaho, among others, launched a statewide program in 2015. Minnesota’s program includes 57 institutions, with students receiving admission offers to at least 26. Georgia’s program, Georgia Match, offers conditional admission requiring further application steps. Wisconsin’s program auto-populates applications with high school data. Funding varies by state, with Minnesota allocating $1.3 million and Wisconsin and Idaho operating on about $50,000. Programs require significant administrative coordination and collaboration.
