A new nonprofit, two-year liberal arts program called Outer Coast is set to open in Sitka, Alaska, with a focus on creating a close-knit community, inspiring student service, and disrupting the Western canon. The program aims to offer a unique educational experience, emphasizing small-group seminars and intimate learning opportunities. It operates out of the former campus of Sheldon Jackson, a religious boarding school and college, and is seeking to put back what was taken from Alaska Native people.
