Inclusive Excellence Demands Systemic Change in Higher Ed

Legislative attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work in higher education cause significant losses and impact members of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (NADOHE). Structural changes are needed to advance an inclusive excellence framework and address systemic inequities. NADOHE’s Framework for Advancing Antiracism Strategy offers a roadmap for such change. Current legislative attacks portray DEI work as a monolith, but it requires diverse approaches to support equitable outcomes. The “anti-DEI” legislation proves the importance of DEI work. Despite political and societal assaults, DEI work will persist to provide equitable access to opportunities that a college degree offers.
