Legends Henry and Shirley Frye Honored with Renaming of A&T Building

North Carolina A&T State University renamed its Academic Classroom Building to Henry E. and Shirley T. Frye Hall, honoring alumni and civil rights contributors, the Fryes. The Fryes donated their archives to the university, documenting their civil rights, social justice, and civic engagement legacy. Henry Frye, first African American N.C. Supreme Court appointee and chief justice, established Greensboro National Bank to fight lending discrimination. Shirley Frye, recipient of numerous awards, served in various educational roles and won an Emmy at WFMY News 2. A statue of the Fryes stands in Greensboro’s Center City Park.
