Saint Louis University’s financial aid office struggled with delays and technical issues during the rollout of the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The first major redesign in 40 years, the new FAFSA was released three months late and was plagued by glitches, causing stress and pressure for financial aid administrators. Despite efforts by the Education Department to resolve issues and provide assistance, the problems have taken a toll on staff, with many considering leaving their jobs. The department has allocated $50 million to help underresourced colleges process financial aid forms and has made some regulatory changes to ease the process. However, if issues persist next year, more staff may consider leaving the field.
