Most first-year students reported satisfaction with college at mid-year point, survey finds

A new survey of over 12,600 young adults found that 84% of first-year college students are satisfied with their experience, up from 68% in 2020 but slightly down from 87% in 2019. Satisfaction varied by income level and race, with higher income and white students reporting higher satisfaction. A sense of belonging was found to be correlated with overall satisfaction, but many students also reported negative experiences, with 31% feeling targeted or excluded based on their identity. Affordability concerns are increasing, with 28% of young adults opting not to attend college citing affordability as a reason, up from 24% in 2022….
