Number of Some College, No Credential Students Continues to Increase

More US students re-enrolled in education programs this year, but 36.8 million under 65 still lack credentials despite attending postsecondary institutions. The National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) Research Center reports a 2.9% increase in such students, with growth in all states except Alaska. The report urges institutions to engage this population to help achieve the Lumina Foundation’s goal of 60% credential attainment for 25-64 year-olds by 2025. Racial and gender inequities persist, with men, Latinx, Black, and Native American students overrepresented in the stop out population.
