Only 36% of adults say higher education is ‘fine how it is,’ survey finds

Just 36% of adults think higher education in the U.S. is “fine how it is,” down 5 percentage points from last year. Both Republicans and Democrats agree that cost is the biggest factor preventing people from attending college. Confidence in higher education is falling, but 75% of adults still believe it provides a good return on investment. Despite dissatisfaction, most still see college as important for financial security. Cost is a major concern, with 9 in 10 agreeing it’s the biggest reason for not attending college.
