OPINION: Encouraging Black and Latinx students to apply to selective colleges has become more urgent than ever

Encouragement for these students to apply to similar demographic schools critical to prevent further enrollment dips and negative perception of institutions. Mentoring key to support Black and Latinx students through college process, increase applications, and foster sense of belonging. Collaboration between schools, corporations, and communities vital. Corporate partnerships provide real-world experiences and foster belonging. Higher education institutions accountable for encouraging underrepresented student applications. Mentoring closes equity gaps, guides first-generation students towards successful college careers. Future needs more Black and Latinx college-educated students.
