Project 2025 and education: A lot of bad ideas, some more actionable than others

Project 2025, a radical policy agenda by the Heritage Foundation, aims to reshape federal government, including education. Proposals include dismantling the Department of Education, eliminating programs for young children in poverty and low-income schools, rescinding LGBTQ+ students’ civil rights protections, reducing funding for disabled students, promoting private school choice, and privatizing federal student loans. The report suggests these changes require significant congressional cooperation, may harm conservative rural areas, and could be enacted unilaterally by a second Trump administration. The agenda reflects a white Christian nationalist agenda more than traditional conservative education policy.
