States get bolder about banning legacy admissions. What does that mean for equity?

Legacy admissions, often benefiting white and wealthy applicants, are under scrutiny nationwide. The ban could impact institutions’ revenue and culture, but supports equal education access. The California law takes effect next September, requiring annual reports from private schools to ensure compliance. Violations will be publicly listed.
