Title IX regulations on sex discrimination can be Trump-era or Biden-era, depending on your state or school

Biden’s Title IX rules, expanding “sex” definition to include sexual orientation and gender identity, welcomed by some, like Wyoming’s Sheridan County School District #3 Superintendent, Chase Christensen, for streamlining sex-based discrimination complaints process. However, 26 states sued to halt rules, succeeding in court. Resulting legal landscape creates confusion, with different rules applying within same districts. Central to court challenges is expanded “sex” definition, with several judges blocking new regulations. Biden administration’s emergency request to consider gender identity/sexual orientation protections separately denied by Supreme Court. Confusion and frustration arise from those wanting to protect LGBTQ+ youth and officials desiring streamlined Title IX rules.
