University of Arizona Eyes Consolidation With UAGC


University of Arizona plans to absorb its online campus, UAGC, previously Ashford University. The move, amidst budget issues and state government concerns, aims to integrate UAGC’s brand and expertise into UA. Governor Katie Hobbs expressed concerns about the acquisition due to Ashford’s failing business model and bankrupt parent company, Zovio. UA hired Ernst and Young to analyze potential consolidation. The integration could provide access to UAGC’s 24,000 students and large tech platform, and improve governance practices. The impact on UA’s Arizona Online and the handling of UAGC’s student debt and low graduation rates remain uncertain.
