What education could look like under Harris and Walz

Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz, both with backgrounds in education, propose policies for affordable child care, protection for immigrant and LGBTQ+ students, and broader access to higher education. They’ve been endorsed by the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers. Harris supports child care legislation and has proposed reducing child care costs for low-income families. Walz, a former teacher, supports public education and has implemented a universal school meal policy in Minnesota. Both candidates support LGBTQ+ students and teachers, and have proposed measures to protect them. They also support increased spending on special education and have proposed measures to improve mental health resources in schools. They oppose Republican-led efforts to minimize classroom discussions about slavery and race.
