Why extracurricular activities are key to top-tier college admissions

All seniors at H.I.S.D.’s Carnegie Vanguard are admitted to college, with 95% going to four-year institutions. This includes first-generation college students from low-income families and students with less than perfect grades. Some receive full scholarships, while others accept work-study packages or loans. Private college admissions consultants can help, but their advice can cost between $850 and $10,000. Free help is also available. Admissions consultant Dan Lee believes that some colleges prefer first-generation students and offer scholarships to less well-resourced students.
